Toyota group vice president and general manager Bob Carter told media in Detroit that Toyota would introduce a battery electric vehicle in 2012. The company also has plans to introduce a fuel cell vehicle by 2015 if an adequate hydrogen fueling network has been established by that time. Carter emphasized that automakers need to be honest with consumers about the capabilities of alternative fuel vehicles to avoid consumer disappointment. (more)

| Mercedes to launch production of fuel cell vehicle in 2010 |

Daimler has announced that it will join Honda and begin series production and consumer leasing of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in early 2010. The new fuel cell vehicle is based on the B-Class compact and will use the latest generation of Daimler's fuel cell and electric drive technology for a 240 mile range and 71 mpg equivalent fuel efficiency.
