Volkswagen scores double win at World Car of the Year
by John McCormick

(New York, April 1, 2010) Automotive journalists from around the globe voted for the Volkswagen Polo as the 2010 World Car of the Year at the New York auto show. The Polo BlueMotion and its Golf and Passat siblings also won the World Green Car award from the same journalists’ organization.
A panel of 59 jurors picked the VW Polo over two other finalists for the overall award, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Toyota Prius.

Previous World Car of the Year winners were the Volkswagen Golf in 2009, the Mazda2/Mazda Demio in 2008, the Lexus LS460 in 2007, the BMW 3-Series in 2006, and the Audi A6 in 2005.

Three other awards were presented by the World Car journalists. The 2010 World Performance Car award went to the Audi R8 V10, which beat two other finalists, the Ferrari California and Porsche 911 GT3.

The Chevrolet Camaro was declared the 2010 World Car Design of the Year, beating out the Citroen C3 Picasso and Kia Soul. The Volkswagen BlueMotion system as used in the Polo, Golf and Passat was selected over the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight
